How I can know when to put my dog down?
I have a miniature poodle that I have for my seventh birthday. He is now 16. You can still see a little, but became blind and can not hear very well. Sometimes you shake and do not know if you are cold, old, or maybe in pain. He wears a diaper, because he started to pee in the house and I think it's because he can not control. On the positive side, it still seems relatively happy (believe it or not) and still has a very good appetite. (I feed wet food in hand, because for some reason like not eat the dish) I know that sounds bad, but honestly, I think which is still a happy dog and I want to ask when it is ready to go. At the same time, I am afraid it hurts and I can not say. How I can know when is the time?
You have already answered this question … your dog seems to be always happy. It is always a painful decision to put a dog down, but that's part of responsible pet owners. My rule of thumb is that the bad days outweigh the good, and when the dog seems to have lost the "spirit."
