A Catholic learning curve
Everyone makes mistakes from time to time. Welcome to humanity. However, when Christians make a mistake, or when of a religious faith makes a mistake is always magnified. Also if there are errors that are much more serious than others. So where am I with this?
I'm not getting the Catholics. Protestants have their own baggage, as we all do!
Church of Rome views have changed radically over the centuries since Italian philosopher Giordano Bruno was burned at the stake as a heretic in 1600 to speculate, among other ideas, other worlds may be inhabited.
The Catholic Church Roman's relationship with science has come a long way since Galileo was tried as a heretic in 1633 and forced to retract his conclusion that the Earth revolves around the sun. Teaching of the Church both in the center of the Earth in the universe. Bible verses have been used to support the geocentric philosophy, but Rome was not prepared for this change of view (heliocentric).
This is no different to us today. Our BS (belief systems) is based on what we've always been taught and what we observe. NEWS FLASH! Both can be wrong.
Even worse is the fact that it took until 1992 for the Catholic Church under John Paul II to declare that the decision of Galileo was an error in what he wrote that "tragic mutual incomprehension." Say what?
It is water down the drain itself.
The Catholic Church has learned its lesson and if anything, to get ahead of the curve of learning science. Four years after Galileo in prison for questioning the idea that the Earth was the center of the universe, the Vatican has asked experts to study the possibility of extraterrestrial life extraterrestrial and its implications for the Catholic Church.
"The questions of the origins of life and whether life exists elsewhere in the universe are very suitable and worthy serious consideration, "said the Rev. Jose Gabriel Funes, an astronomer and director of the Vatican Observatory. Funes, a Jesuit priest, presented the results on Tuesday a five-day conference that brought together astronomers, physicists, biologists and other experts to discuss the emerging field of astrobiology – the study of the origin of life and its existence elsewhere in the cosmos.
Funes said: "The life science and religion arises mainly as a result of a vast and inhospitable universe special. "It is a fertile environment for dialogue between professionals of astrobiology and those seeking to understand the meaning of our existence in a world biological.
Thus, the Catholic Centre Castel Gandolfo, Italy, and phone home!
